The story of Raven stealing the light highlights many of his traits. Raven flew in the darkness during the beginning of time when one day he saw a light far off. Curious as he was, he flew to it. Not knowing how to get to it he noticed a young woman walking in and out of the great chief's house. So, he turned himself into a spruce needle floating into the water that the young woman collected and drank. In a short time, she was pregnant and had a baby with a beaklike nose. The great chief was very happy with this. Raven grew very fast and realized where the light was coming from. Raven threw a magnificent fit until the daughter convinced her father to give raven the boxes that held the great chiefs most treasured possessions. The sun, moon and stars. Raven instantly transformed back into the white raven and flew out the smoke hole. The sun was so hot in his beak that he dropped each item one by one finally making him release it to the great people, giving the world light once again and turned raven black.
