"Haa Shuka, Our Ancestors: Tlingit Oral Narratives" features eleven classic stories by 13 elders, including Naatsilanei (the origin of the killer whale), The Strong Man, The Woman Who Married the Bear, Kaats' (The Man Who Married the Bear), and two stories about the coming of the white man. Edited by Nora Marks Dauenhauer and Richard Dauenhauer, the book presents Tlingit texts with facing English translations, and includes illustrations, notes, biographies, and a bibliography. This book is Volume 1 of the Classics of Tlingit Oral Literature series, published by Sealaska Heritage and the University of Washington Press.
