This landmark book documents more than 3,000 Native place names and their locations in Southeast Alaska. Nearly twenty years in the making, it is the most comprehensive study of its kind. It was compiled by Dr. Thomas Thornton in collaboration with hundreds of people, including area Tribes and Elders, under several grants administered by Harold Martin through the Southeast Native Subsistence Commission and Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska. Published by Sealaska Heritage Institute in association with the University of Washington Press in 2012. Winner of the Alaska Historical Society's 2012 "Contributions to Alaska History Award" and the Alaska Library Association's "Alaskana Award."
