Tlingit Artist Jennifer Younger

Jennifer Younger is a Tlingit Eagle Kaagwaantaan artist best known for fusing traditional metal carving with contemporary elements. Jennifer strives to continuously push the boundaries of her medium.

In 2012 Jennifer was awarded the Master Artist and Apprentice Grant in Traditional Native Arts from the Alaska State Council on the Arts. This gave her the opportunity to work with Nicolas Galanin in the art of metal carving. Upon finishing the apprenticeship grant, Dave Galanin took her under his wing to help understand more about the Tlingit culture and the art of carving on metals.

Younger, who runs her own online business, says her dream of pursuing a traditional art form while having the freedom to express her personal style has found its expression in the art of metal carving. “I feel like I have found what I am meant to do.”
